| Back in the early 50's our grandparents opened the first taverna in the area of Alykes, serving local "mezedes" & ouzo to all the locals from the surounding villages that they were coming to Alykes beach to enjoy the sun and the sea. Its cuzine was stricly Greek and the menu small but tastefull.... |

In 1969 our parents had the brilliant idea of expanding the old taverna
and build a new building facing the beach, with a larger menu
and fresher ideas about running a restaurant.
The second generation
was in charge now.. |

The restaurant opened under the name "APHRODITE" in 1970.
It's special features : Greek cuisine & our mother as the cook. Her own secret recipies made our customers number growing year after year. Using only local fresh products such as olive oil fresh fish, beef & pork from the villages around and local made wine.
Those secret recipies and products is maybe the only thing that is
still the same 30 years later.. |
Our fame as one of the best restaurants on the island was growing fast so were the buisness. More tables, larger menu, more chairs,
water sports on the beach in front of the restaurant, larger variety
of wines and drinks and a small bar for the late night customers.

After 20 years of success it was time for the buisness to pass on to the 3rd generation which was ready to expand even more the services, adding new features to the buisness. For start they changed the name from "APHRODITE" to "PAPORO" (which means "boat" in the local traditional language).
Costas, Vaso & her husband Stavro & Maria , took over in 1990 when Alykes was already one of the nicest tourist resorts on the island with tourists coming from many destinations ( England, Italy, France, Germany... ) |
A beautiful beach bar was builded and the beach in front of it was organized with sunbeds umbrellas. Showers were added too.
There is a large shade with two big pool tables and a kiosk so everybody can enjoy they drinks and lunch hidding from the burning sun... |

In the late 70's Alykes started being a tourist resort not only for the locals but for tourists coming from all over Europe.

In our short future plans our achievement is to build a hotel in the surrounding area so that we can provide total satisfaction and complete services to our customers....
And the story goes on...... |
